R&B is the Best Music Genre

By Alexis Patterson

R&B is undoubtedly one of the best music genres out there. There are many different musical possibilities and ways for artists to express their versatility. R&B infuses most genres, making it easier for it to be more diverse. Many artists are considered R&B, but each brings their own style to the genre. For example, Beyoncé and SZA are two famous R&B artists; however, their approach to R&B is entirely different. Beyoncé’s songs are more upbeat and perfect for a hyper vibe. In contrast, SZA’s music has a more laid-back, chill vibe. You’ll notice a difference if you compare 7/11 by Beyoncé to Love Galore by SZA. 7/11 is an upbeat and funky song that will get you up and dancing in no time, while Love Galore has a more relaxed and soothing tone that will make you want to sit back and relax.

R&B is a genre for many, not limited to one community or person. Everybody can find a vibe to identify with in at least one R&B artist, as they all have their way of expressing a connection with the outside world. The genre has also helped to bring people together for many decades since the 40’s and many more to come. Internationally R&B has made their rightful place in the world of music and without R&B some genres wouldn’t be as popularized or put out there into the world.

In conclusion, R&B is a genre that has stood for a long time and continues to evolve and inspire new artists to come out and show their talents. It’s a genre that has brought joy and comfort to many people over the years, and it’s no wonder that it’s still one of the best and most popular genres out there.

The Significance of Taylor Swift’s Midnight Rain

By Addison Preston

Released three weeks ago, On October 21st 2022, a dynamic masterpiece titled Midnight Rain was released on all musical platforms. This incredible lyrical three minute long song, features a vocal destruction produced by Jack Antonoff, one of Swift’s fellow songwriters and producers. This song is one of the most heart shattering and influential songs off of her newest hit album Midnights. Despite the efforts of a contrasting poppy culture, the true meaning of the song relies on the chorus, and focuses on lyrics. Swift echoes her past lovers throughout this song, telling the tale of heartbreak and the differences in such relationships.

In her debut of this song, a remix of her vocals are presented to the listeners. However, in her most recent cover of this song, she is accompanied by playing the piano and acoustically singing this song. The chords harmonize and seethe the pain that she stresses throughout the song. The haunting G sharps, synchronizing with E flats dedicate the emotion of the words slipping from her lungs.  Continue reading The Significance of Taylor Swift’s Midnight Rain

Top Three Tim Burton Movies

By Lillian Liebke

Tim Burton is an extremely talented producer and artist who has been producing films and short stories since he was a child. He is very well known for his melancholy tones and settings, and famous actor Johnny Depp stars in most of Tim Burton’s films. But, which movies are his best works, and what makes them so captivating?

The third best is Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice is about a couple who dies and is trapped in their home, forced to live with the unbearable new family that moves in. They try to contact a ”bioexorcist” to rid the house of the family, and end up coming in contact with Beetlejuice. The live action film uses different effects and gory costumes to give a scary feel, but the overall tone is comedic. Tim Burton’s exotic costumes and amusing look on the afterlife gives the movie an exotic feel, and it’s amazing acting really pulls it all together.  Continue reading Top Three Tim Burton Movies

The Hallmark Hell We Live In

by Zachary Brey

Modern Christmas movies have gone to trash. It’s all the same plot over and over again. Here let me give you an example. Let’s make our “own” story. Sarah will be our stand in character. Sarah is a single woman living in a small town working in the big city. Sarah’s mother is always complaining about Sarah being alone on Christmas. Sarah says she is content with being alone, although deep down inside she is not. Insert some subplot about her friend that is unnamed, but a comedic relief.  Blah, blah, blah, skip some important baloney. Boom, the end of the movie resolves with Sarah with the love of her life, as her unnamed friend is there to watch the enjoyment.

At the end of the day, it is too cliché. If you read that story and went, “huh, sounds like one I know.” Yeah,  it’s probably because it is. Modern movies rely on the same cookie cutter (pun intended) plots. It’s all the same nowadays. Honestly if you want to see it in a more visual perspective, we’ve hit a plateau on Christmas movies. We’re not improving their style, or not changing it up, they are being made as cash grabs. If you want a change maybe make a plot yourself that involves Christmas becoming a complete disaster, but the main characters work it through or something. Like the tree lights on fire and grandma dies, and the turkey was over cooked. But the main characters see that it is not the materialistic things that make Christmas, well Christmas, but the fact they are all celebrating it all together. And with high confidence I can tell you that’s probably a plot already for a movie. How about this, STOP making Christmas movies.

Gold Label’s New Release

By Ian Valdez

Following the release of I’ll Say my Line, Gold Label hops back in the studio to record their second studio album. For Evan and Ian this is their first song that they are recording with the band, Evan stating “it’s honestly so fun and nerve racking to record, but I’m glad I can get this opportunity with such cool guys.” As the band prepares for their show later this month, they want to pump out as much content as they can.

Gold Label’s refined sound is something that the band is very proud of, but with their new song, they are working very hard on perfecting the song. They’ve upgraded their instruments, amps, and got better microphones. They are very serious about putting out a great sound that everyone will love. Their intention has always been to put out music that is new and refreshing, they’ve always kept to their roots with every song that they’ve written and have not tried to change for anyone else’s standards. Ms. Lauryn Hill

by Malia Esposito

Music is the best thing in the world. I believe music shapes who we are as people. It connects us to our personalities and inner feelings. Music also helps people connect to their moods. There’s only a small number of people who don’t have a favorite music genre or artist, but I think those people haven’t discovered a connection to a style they like. I love R&B music and artists like Lauryn Hill. Not only do I love her music and voice, but I feel a connection to her poetry. She speaks for the youth and women in the music industry.

Hill was one of the first female R&B singers to win best R&B album. I remember the day my mom introduced me to her music at thirteen. I had no idea how much she impacted and changed my mood in many scenarios. By listening to the artist I love I feel calm and feeling good again. Lauryn Hill first became an icon with her works with the Fugees in the album The Score. The group rose to fame with their album The score and was one of the best selling albums of the 90s. The album has seventeen songs, my favorite being a cover of Bob Marley & The Wailers No Woman, No Cry. Another great song from the album is Zealots. Continue reading Ms. Lauryn Hill

Why Marvel is Overrated

by Riley Voss

Marvel is an incredibly popular franchise, with millions of fans all over the world. With over thirty movies and series to watch, and an endless amount of comics dating all the way back to 1939, Marvel has a rich and storied history. However, with all of the lore to keep track of, Marvel becomes a hard franchise to follow and be a fan of. That is why I feel that Marvel is overrated. The sheer amount of characters and stories and the amount of work needed to learn about all of them make Marvel not worth following anymore.

For fourteen years, Marvel has been releasing movies in “phases”, slowly telling the convoluted and confusing stories of their hundreds of Marvel characters. From Iron Man all the way to Thor: Love and Thunder, the MCU has released over thirty movies and shows since 2008, and plans to release up to thirty-seven more over the course of their “Multiverse Saga”. This is a lot to keep track of, with over seven hundred characters with different backstories and adventures, all represented in the MCU. With so many stories to keep up with, and new movies coming out every year, it can be difficult for even the most avid fans to stay current. This is part of what makes Marvel so overrated and not worth following: new fans could end up spending months, even years catching up with all of the lore in the MCU alone. It is incredibly difficult to be a well-educated fan of Marvel, even for someone who has been following it all their life. Continue reading Why Marvel is Overrated

Top Three Female Artists

By Lillian Liebke

There has been an ongoing debate about who the best female artist is for decades. But who really is the best? These three women are the best female artists in the industry currently, and here’s why.

The third best has to be Billie Holiday. Billie Holiday was an African American Jazz singer when slavery and the Civil Rights Movement was in its prime. Billie Holiday wrote numerous songs speaking out against the violence towards African Americans in America, her most popular being Strange Fruit. In this song, Billie sings about how African Americans are taken off the streets and hung off of trees in the public for everyone to see, comparing them to a “strange” fruit. She sings about the gory details of the horrible acts of violence towards her community, and her songs helped many African American people stay hopeful that one day the world will change. Billie Holiday died in 1959, five years into the Civil Rights Movement.  Continue reading Top Three Female Artists

A Successful First Show

By Aleks Jankovic

Local Kenosha indie band “Gold Label” has just played their first public concert this past weekend at the Creative Space, and the turnout was much higher than initially expected. With 170 people in attendance, the band was shocked to see the amount of support they had received from their community, and were nothing but excited to continue their trajectory.

Following the debut of their single I’ll Say My Line, the band was excited to play their first show in front of a major audience. “Our past two experiences playing live were house parties for a fairly small crowd, so we were pumped to finally start playing for the public and hopefully increase attention,” said drummer Jack Salisbury. The set-up process was fairly smooth, with little to no technical issues during the sound check. Continue reading A Successful First Show

Stranger Things

By Amaiya Diaz

Stranger Things is one of the most well-known shows on Netflix. The popular franchise first took off on July 15, 2016. The Duffer Brothers, the show’s creators, came up with the idea and got the script for the first season in 2012. The show takes place in Hawkins, Indiana, in 1983, following a group of kids, teens, and adults on their mission to find the missing character Will Byers. Will went missing in the first episode of season one, and following his disappearance, a new character Eleven was introduced. She was discovered by Will’s friends, Mike, Lucas, and Dustin while they were looking for Will.

Eleven was introduced as being a more interesting character. At first, she seemed to just be a runaway boy, yet the friend group soon learned she escaped from a lab. Eleven revealed to Mike her telekinesis powers in episode 2 of the first season “The Weirdo on Maple Street”. Throughout the first season, all of the characters continue to try and find Will Byers, but eventually, they learn that Eleven is the key to helping find him. Eleven is connected to an alternate universe that they named “The Upside Down” after the kid’s favorite game Dungeons and Dragons.  Continue reading Stranger Things

Steve Lacy’s Meltdown

By Ian Valdez

Steve Lacy, a popular musician that has recently been in the spotlight of popular music and internet sensation, with his recent album becoming a big hit on TikTok, with songs including Bad Habit, and Static  people have been using their creative ideas to Lacy’s music which has made him even more popular recently than his 2010 debut. Lacy has been touring showing off his music to those who love his music but there has been much controversy with his performances, with many people who are actually fans, and even Lacy himself expressing their annoyance with people going to the shows, while only knowing the TikTok parts.

During one of Steve Lacy’s performances he was singing his song Bad Habit and towards the end of the song he was fed up with the dead crowd and people only singing the parts from TikTok, this frustrated Lacy and he freaked out, telling the DJ to stop playing the song and he walked off, but before he went off the stage he went up to a fan and and smashed their phone off the ground. This is a very strange act for Lacy considering he is a very nice respectable person, but this outburst is raising eyebrows and making fans question Lacy as a person.  Continue reading Steve Lacy’s Meltdown

Insane Clown Posse

By Lillian Liebke

There have been numerous controversial bands and artists throughout the years, but do some cross the line? Artists like Marilyn Manson, Lady Gaga, and even Elvis Presley all use shock value when they perform, but Insane Clown Posse really pushes it like no other band. Insane Clown Posse’s songs are some of the most controversial in the whole industry, but they are not as scary as they seem.

Insane Clown Posse consists of two members, Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope, who both wear black and white clown face paint as their image. The black and white face paint then transferred onto their fanbase called the “Juggalo’s.” A majority of Insane Clown Posse’s songs consist of vulgar language and details of disturbing events.  Continue reading Insane Clown Posse

Queen

By Madison Nannini

Queen is hands down, one of the best bands to ever exist in human history. Queen made their first appearance in the early 1970’s with the release of their first song, Keep Yourself Alive. Instantly, Queen grew a fan base. Later that same year, Queen released their first album ironically titled Queen.

Queen went on to release many more hit songs and make more albums. But one of the most impressive things Queen ever did was take a symphonic instrumental, and put rock over it, for almost six minutes. Of course I am talking about the most memorable song Queen ever released, Bohemian Rhapsody. With Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen had not only released a song that changed the ideals of Rock and Roll, but they had changed the music industry. It was a risky move to release a song of that duration and with a symphonic sound rather than a total 70’s rock and roll song. But as Queen expected, the song hit the charts and is still the most memorable and admired song by Queen. The legendary use of electronics, vocals, and instrumentals, this song single-handedly changed the music industry forever. Of course Queen had other great hits like We Will Rock You (1977), Killer Queen (1974), Crazy Little Thing Called Love (1980), We Are The Champions (1977), Another One Bites The Dust (1980), and Under Pressure (1981) Continue reading Queen

Steve Lacy: Part 2

By Joe Mendoza

The year after the release of his debut studio album, Apollo XXI in 2019, Lacy followed up with another intriguing album, The Lo-fis, which is composed of 15 tracks, ranging from 43 second songs to more normal, 3 minute songs. After the technical beginning of his career, Steve has stayed true to his philosophy of making music he likes and enjoys, and being sure to experiment with his sound, and with this album he continues this. He starts the album off with a confident track, boasting about his demeanor while at a party(Atomic Vomit), where two tracks later, it’s a more melancholy song describing the nature of change, and leaving people behind in That’s no Fun.

He shifts his tone and manipulates the topics of his songs all throughout the album, highlighting the versatility he has, although he still manages to keep the same themes of love and loss in all of these tracks. In Jars of It, Infrunami, and Uuuu, he uses one or two verse songs to put out the message of his love for this girl with interesting and appealing lyrics, like in Infrunami, where he sings:

“Girl, you’re the one I want

You’re the one I need I’m beggin’ you, please

Can you come back to me?

‘Cause I was blind to see

That you were right in front of me” Continue reading Steve Lacy: Part 2

The Exorcist: The Most Horrifying Horror Movie?

by Jacob Puhr

The Exorcist is more than a movie.  When it premiered in 1973 it became a cultural event, one that possessed the country in a ghoulish grasp.  Interviews at the time featured responses not unlike the following, “It’s something I never saw in my whole entire life. It’s something different, and I went to a lot of movies but I’ve never seen anything like this myself.”  The Exorcist would mark a pivotal time in cinematic history, one where what was considered acceptable changed; it’s no coincidence that gory slasher movies rose to prominence after The Exorcist’s release.  The terrors and horrors packed into this film resulted in audience member’s fainting, hyperventilating, running out of the theater and some even had heart attacks.  So what about this film evoked such fear never before felt in cinematic history and is truly the most horrific film ever made?

Many movie goers today can happily remark they’ve never fainted watching a movie in the theater.  The idea of even running out of the theater is uncommon among most moviegoers.  However, those who dared view The Exorcist experienced just the opposite.  The film was so agonizing to watch that theaters kept smelling salts on hand as noted by The Film School Rejects.  Andrew Klavan, an author (an avid ghost story lover) and commentator, noted on his show while attending the movie with his religious friend, the ladder hyperventilated and had to be brought out of the theater into a lobby of sick, crying audience members. Top Three Horror Films

By Lillian Liebke

Horror movies have been loved by many for decades, but what really makes a horror movie “scary?” Most scary movies will at least make you a little uncomfortable, but which movies really pushed the limits? These three movies are the most gruesome and unnerving movies ever made. Spoilers ahead!

The third scariest movie is Hush. Hush is about a deaf writer who lives by herself in a house in the middle of the woods. While at home in the middle of writing her first professional book, the main character is met with a picture of her taken inside the house sent to her computer. The movie quickly turns south when she realizes that someone has broken into her house, and she now has to defend herself against this attacker. The character being deaf gives the movie such a darker feel, as she uses her other senses to defend herself from getting murdered.

The second scariest movie is Midsommer. Midsommer is about a girl who’s parents and sister all die in the same accident, so she goes on a vacation with her boyfriend and two of their friends. They go on vacation to this remote spot where a small community lives, but they soon find out that the small community they are living with is a cult. The whole film is unnerving as we see the insides of the cult and the rituals that they partake in. From suicide to giant reproduction barns, we see the inside of a dystopian society that is not that far from previous historical situations.  Continue reading Top Three Horror Films

How Gold Label Swept the Nation

By Aleks Jankovic

The newest indie band out of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Gold Label has topped the charts with their newest single I’ll Say My Line, which was released on streaming services October 7th. Led by frontman Aleks Jankovic, the band will be playing their first show in several months at the Kenosha Creative Space on October 28th.

Lasting a little over an hour in length, the setlist will have a nice balance between original songs and covers. In anticipation of the long awaited concert, we conducted an interview with the members of the band about their goals and aspirations playing at the Creative Space. “I think our main mission is to spread our name out to more people and start making connections,” stated drummer Jack Salisbury. Along with getting their name out to more of the public, they want to try and have fun with the show at the same time. “I’d love to just get out there and have fun with the show, and try not to take it too seriously. It’s all about enjoying ourselves at the end of the day,” said bassist Evan Arneson.  Continue reading How Gold Label Swept the Nation

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: A Review on the Best Anime and Manga Series (Part 2)

By Ollie Campbell

In my second part of the review, I will go over part 4(Diamond is Unbreakable) and part 5 (Golden Wind). There are three more parts, 7 and 8 are not animated yet, and part 6 is having its last batch of episodes released in December of this year. I have not finished part 6 yet and started to read 7. I have yet to touch 8, so I will be leaving those reviews out. Although I have no opinion on them yet, I’ve heard amazing reviews on them, especially part 7 (Steel Ball Run). My personal favorite part of the series so far is Part 4.

Diamond is Unbreakable follows our main character, Josuke Higashikita, in the Japanese town called Morioh. Josuke is the love child resulting from an affair Joseph Joestar(part 2’s main protagonist) had. We learn more about the origins of stands throughout part 4. Most of part 4 is narrated by a side character named Koichi Hirose. We are first introduced to him on his way to school, and Koichi bumps into Jotaro Kujo(part 3’s main protagonist). Jotaro traveled to Morioh in search of Josuke, wanting to learn about him and see if Josuke possesses a stand. Jotaro ends up being right, as Josuke has Joestar blood in him. All Joestars had possessed a stand after Dio Brando stole Jonathan Joestar’s body and used it to get a stand. Jotaro decides to stay in Morioh longer than expected as he also found an arrow in Morioh. The arrow may be the answer to how people initially earn stands.  Continue reading JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: A Review on the Best Anime and Manga Series (Part 2)

Steve Lacy: Part 1

By Joe Mendoza

After the release of a couple promising singles and a demo, Steve Lacy, a young 19 year old at the time, showed his potential in the music industry in the late 2010’s. Beginning with C U Girl, Some, and Dark Red, Lacy stirred up the pot, and with the creative beats and appealing lyrics, he began to build a fanbase who immediately fell in love with his romantic sound. Without much wait time, Steve Lacy’s Demo dropped on February 24, 2017, lasting 13 minutes and consisting of six songs that were produced exclusively with his iPhone. The feel of his music was obvious, with most of his songs having a smooth beat which made you wonder how on Earth it was made on GarageBand and a voice even smoother. Many of his songs were full with the heartbreak, confusion, and blindness that comes with love, and with his demo getting a lot of attention, Lacy soon found himself with a combination of fans from his band, The Internet, and new fans who happened to run into his music.

Following up such a unique and creative demo would prove to be a challenge to most, yet with the release of three more singles, N Side, Playground, and Hate CD, he teased his next album, and with his more developed sound, Apollo XXI released on May 24, 2019. This album kept a lot of the same themes of young love and what comes with it, and his smooth sound was put on display with slow, passionate songs like N Side, Lay Me Down, and Love 2 Fast. He also experimented more with his sound, providing his audience with a violin ballet in Amandla’s Interlude, and touching on the rap side of music with the last song on the album, Outro Freestyle/4ever. This album stamped Lacy’s spot in the music industry as a solo artist, and he was able to step out of the box of just being a guitarist for The Internet. He generated a lot of talk after this album, and his fan base only grew after.  Continue reading Steve Lacy: Part 1

FIFA Video Game

By Josiah Finkler

FIFA, the federal international de football association, has produced a very popular video game, FIFA. FIFA is very similar to Madden, 2k, NHL, and other sports games EA sports has provided. These games allow gamers to play the sports they love and enjoy on the go and on online in a totally unique way compared to shooting games and other popular video games. Fifi is one of EA’s best video games and is known worldwide.

For example, soccer is the most popular sport in the world and everyone enjoys playing it. On top of that, everyone nowadays has a console, a PC, or something to play video games on. Both of these examples show why making a soccer video game would be so huge in the video game industry. FIFA has been such a prospering investment as the graphics for the game keep on getting better and better as technology advances, and more people are playing the game everyday. So, in the state of the world that we live in and how important video games are to people, FIFA was such a good concept and is thriving in the video game industry. Continue reading FIFA Video Game

Master of Puppets

by Ian Valdez

Released in the spring of 1986, metal band Metallica released their third studio album Master of Puppets, it was an instant hit and broke records without a big studio label, Metallica would then go on tour around the U.S. and then to Japan.

The title track of the album, Master of Puppets, is arguably one of the most influential metal songs to have ever been released, its fast paced, well written, heavy sound connected very well with metal heads around the world. Rhythm guitarist James Hetfield dubbed three guitar tracks to create a large, tight sounding tone that is very pleasing to listen to. With fast parts the middle of the song is complemented very well by a clean, melodic part that is very pleasing to listen to.  Continue reading Master of Puppets

Superhero Movies Go The Way of the Western

By Benjamin Rothove

Superhero movies have dominated the box office for the past two decades, but their popularity is finally waning.  After 2019’s Avengers: Endgame crushed box office records, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen diminishing returns, with disappointments such as Black Widow and Eternals underscoring this decline.  So, what happened?

Between 2008’s Iron Man and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a carefully planned saga consisting of twenty-two films spanning eleven years.  Between 2021 and 2024, fifteen movies are planned for release, alongside at least twenty television series and additional specials.  Rather than a Marvel releasing being a biannual cinematic event, the executives at Disney decided that the sludge must flow.  Now, a new MCU property is released almost every week.  Even die-hard fans are having trouble keeping up with the storyline, and most casual viewers have given up.   Continue reading Superhero Movies Go The Way of the Western

Halloween (1978)- A Milestone in Horror

by Jacob Puhr

The horror genre has undergone a shaky history to say the least.  On the one hand, horror films like Psycho, Silence of the Lambs, The Exorcist and The Shining exemplify how striking yet astonishing the genre can be.  Overtime, however, the genre has deteriorated like an abandoned haunted house.  Powerful tales rich with mystery, suspense, tension and fascinating themes concerning the dark side of both the human and supernatural world have devolved into dull, predictable flicks void of the entrancing questions that once made the genre so great.  One movie that’s held up as the shining (see what I did there) beacon of what horror and slasher films can be is John Carpenter’s Halloween.  The question posed now is whether Halloween truly exemplifies the horror genre, or if it’s simply another unwatchable slasher flick?

For starters, we must examine what makes Halloween such a good horror film in the eyes of many.  We should ask what this film does best that sets it above so many in its genre?  A variety of film essays and critical reviews offer no shortage of insights.  For instance, the reverend critic, Roger Ebert, rates Halloween with 4/4 stars.  He details Halloween as a “visceral experience”, one where the film is happening to us.  The movie isn’t just something we watch, but something we experience, as if we’re present in the film.  He also praises Carpenter’s use of foregrounds and the realistic depiction of the victims.  In particular, he mentions how the victims are all very real people.  The dialogue exchanged between Laurie and her companions feel genuine, as if we’re watching real teenagers in their normal daily life.  When they’re killed, it’s more piercing to our nerves because we feel as if real people are brutally strangled, stabbed and slashed.     Continue reading Halloween (1978)- A Milestone in Horror

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: A Review on the Best Anime and Manga Series (Part 1)

By Ollie Campbell

The manga series known as JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, created by Hirohiko Araki, is one of the biggest and most popular manga in Japan. It recently became more mainstream in America, after the anime adaptation by David Production came out in 2012. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is most known for its heavy pop culture references. The most recent season, Stone Ocean, has been produced by the infamous streaming service Netflix. Not a lot of fans are too happy with Netflix and how they’ve been treating our beloved show.

The manga are separated by parts. The manga has 1-8 parts (all completed) so far, and Araki is said to be working on part 9. So far, only parts 1-6 have been animated, and Netflix announced the rest of part 6 to be released in December of this year. Many fans were upset with Netflix for a while because of the previous wait time given to us. Netflix had basically set aside Stone Ocean(part 6) for almost 2 years, the first batch coming out in late 2020. Not only that, but they seemed to have cheapened out, and not too many people were fond of the bad animation and CGI. There are also critiques relating back to the first part in the series, as the anime adaptation left out a lengthy amount of lore, rushing the first part. The first part titled Phantom Blood was so short, they combined it with part 2, Battle Tendency, the two parts now making up one season (26 episodes total). This can confuse new fans, especially to those who haven’t read the manga. Fans will get parts confused with the seasons and call part 3, part 2. This has been widely criticized by the fandom for a while. Continue reading JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: A Review on the Best Anime and Manga Series (Part 1)

Jeffrey Dahmer

By Amaiya Diaz

The recent hit Netflix show follows a real story behind the man Jeffrey Dahmer. Infamously known for his seventeen victims, he is one of the most familiar serial killers to date. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on May 21, 1960, Dahmer’s childhood was highlighted in the first couple episodes of the show. As he grew up, signs that he wasn’t “normal” began to appear. His first victim, Steven Hicks, was killed on June 18, 1978, in his family’s home after promising he would give his victim a ride to a concert. Steven Hicks was sadly only his first of many victims, and it’s where everything started.

A year after his first murder, Dahmer enlisted in the army. He was trained as a medical specialist, and served two years before returning home in 1981 after being deemed unsuitable to keep serving due to his severe alcoholism. His next murder was committed in 1988, with his twenty-five year old victim being lured into his grandmother’s home. Continue reading Jeffrey Dahmer

The Moon Landing- The Fifth Biggest Lie of the 20th Century (SATIRE)

by The Truth Seeker

If you thought the 2020 election was a hoax, wait until you see this lie pulled off by our authoritarian aristocrats to further subject us to their globalist agenda.

The moon landing is seen as one of America’s greatest achievements.  Who didn’t get chills when they heard Kennedy announce, “We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.” Oh, and don’t even get me started on Kennedy’s “assasination”.  Anyone with a working optical nerve system can see that the CIA butchered Kennedy due to his failures dealing with Communism.  The CIA’s cover up of their involvement in murdering Kennedy like a pig provided ample practice for orchestrating the moon landing hoax.

Fellow truth seeker, I know you must be wondering how the moon landing could be fake.  Let me, your humble narrator, explain it all.  My answer is simple: logic!  The moon landing simply isn’t possible: there’s no gravity in space.  If there’s no gravity, then how could the spacemen stand on the moon?  If they were really on the moon, they would have just floated away into space.  But they didn’t!  Furthermore, an examination into our history reveals just how fake the moon landing was.  In 1937, the Hindenburg caught fire and was incinerated.  Even decades later, the Challenger exploded in the ‘80s.  So let me get this straight, we could send people to the moon but not into space to deploy a satellite? If more advanced technology, which will be the end of us all one day, failed to successfully launch a spaceship then how could we have done so in 1969?     Continue reading The Moon Landing- The Fifth Biggest Lie of the 20th Century (SATIRE)

Angels Like You

By Julie Jaworski

Miley Cyrus is well known for her role of Hannah Montana where she played a girl who had two identities, a celebrity and a normal high school girl. This role lasted a while with movies coming after the show. Once this show ended, she pursued her solo career. Being on a children’s show for so long, once she got the freedom from it she went through many phases.

Her music has been extremely successful! She has about 10 albums released. One very successful album is titled Plastic Hearts. There are about 15 songs on this album. Angels Like You, the third song on this album, is a very popular song. There is a very deep meaning behind the lyrics that fans deciphered. This song is about past relationships Miley has been in, and it sounds to be a very self critical song.  Continue reading Angels Like You

Modern Movie has Destroyed the Female Character

By Zachary Brey

Now I know what you’re thinking when you read that title, “What the …” hear me out though. If we compare the modern female character to one from the 70’s 80’s there is a vast difference. Personally I feel that nowadays we make characters invulnerable, and too predictable. The cliché I usually see in a movie is, “I’m a woman, that is the center point of my character.” This needs to stop. Take for instance Ellen Ripley from Alien. We see she is just a normal crew member from the Nostromo. Now yes, her crewmates have died to an alien and she is the lone survivor. (You had 42 years to watch the movie before I spoiled it.) We see she is a vulnerable character, and her life is actually at stake. Why does this create such a great character?  Because it shows the character is relatable to the fact they can actually die.

Now the perfect example of a horrible female character would have to be Captain Marvel from Captain Marvel. In the movies she is virtually unstoppable. She beats the living crap out of everyone and everything. Now yes, she is a superhero. But even Superman has his kryptonite. What is her weakness you may ask? Brainwashing and mind control. Do they portray this in the movie? Not really. Sure they have a scene here and there with going into some mind thing, but breaks free from it. How is it she is supposed to have a weakness but it is completely ignored for cinematic purposes? I would have been more fine with the power of friendship cliché to help set her free. The Genius of Nas’ Illmatic

By Aleks Jankovic

On April 19th, 1994, Nasir Jones kicked off his hip-hop career with his debut album, Illmatic. Not only for its time, but even still today, it was a testament as to what could be accomplished with the genre, and what made it especially interesting compared to any other variety of music.

This was one of the first instances in a popular hip-hop album where the instrumentals are based mostly on jazz samples, which made a huge impact on the cultural backgrounds of the genre. Since hip-hop was developed as a genre to discuss black struggles in America, and jazz music was built on black musicians, this use of sampling by Nas and his team added an extra layer of context to the album’s overall theme. As the instrumentals change from one texture to the other, the jazz samples that build the instrumental help to convey his message of black struggle beyond simply a lyrical context. It allows the instrumentals to speak for themselves and become a separate expression of ideas.  Continue reading The Genius of Nas’ Illmatic

Post Malone

By Madison Nannini

Austin Richard Post, famously known as Post Malone, has got to be my favorite artist of all time. The obsession started in 2016 when I heard his song, Congratulations. This led me to listen to the entire Stoney album. I fell in love with his music instantly. His unique voice was different from anything I had heard before.

Post Malone released his debut album in 2016, named Stoney. He named it this because his friends call him stoney, due to the fact that he was always smoking, but he quit shortly after the release of this album. In 2018, Post Malone went on to create his next album, Beerbongs and Bentleys. This album was far more different than Stoney. There were more features, as Post Malone was building more of a following and moving up in the charts. This album had a party vibe and gave off good vibes. Continue reading Post Malone

Is Harry’s House Worth the Listen?

By Julie Jaworski

Harry Styles is a well known artist, primarily from the band he was previously in, One Direction. Once the band had split, each artist pursued solo careers. For some, this was an extreme success, but for others not so much. Harry was one of the boys to benefit from a solo career, releasing his debut self titled album, Harry Styles. With the success from his debut album, Harry wrote his next, titled Fine Line. Finally, and the most recent, he wrote and released Harry’s House.

There are thirteen songs on this album, beginning with Music for a Sushi Restaurant. This song is a very different vibe from his normal music, which is what makes it likable. It’s upbeat, a concert song. The fourth song on the album is As It Was, which was actually released earlier than the album was. It was considered a teaser to the album, and with the success that this song brought, it was clear the album would have similar success. Continue reading Is Harry’s House Worth the Listen?

Band Review: The Internet

by Joe Mendoza

Music is everywhere, and has so much flavor and variety wherever you find it. The band that’s been catching my attention the most recently has been the alternative RnB band, The Internet, who’s made up of vocalist Syd, keyboardist Matt Martians, bassist Patrick Paige II, drummer Christopher Smith, and guitarist Steve Lacy. This is a super powerful lineup, and the amount of talent in their hands is reflected with the quality of music that they produce. They each have fairly successful solo careers, and their discography, made up of Purple Naked Ladies (2011), Feel Good (2013), Ego Death (2015), and Hive Mind (2018), makes their name one to remember, although many have suspected that their solo careers might affect whether or not they can continue to create music together.

With the release of their debut album in 2011, and even in 2013 with Feel Good, many critics believe that their sounds didn’t blend together that well, and with each of them having fairly successful solo careers, it’s easy to see why, since they each have their own sound already. Everything changed in 2015, with the release of Ego Death. This was the first time that the band was able to cohesively make music that blended together each musician’s unique style, as well as their first well recognized album.
